Hartsdale Sports Bar Braces for Giants vs. 49ers

HARTSDALE, N.Y. – With the feel of south Florida and a strictly New York suburban attitude, Hurricane Grill will be packed Sunday for the National Football Conference championship game between the New York Giants and the host San Francisco 49ers, according to the Hartsdale sports bar manager Dale Rexhouse.

Last week, Rexhouse said the fans were three-deep at the bar and the dining room was packed as Big Blue shocked the heavily favored Green Bay Packers, 37-20. This week, he said, it should be more of the same, with 230 people – the maximum allowed – expected to party hearty for the big game. The Giants will go into the game as the underdog, having posted an 11-7 record this year to the 49ers' 14-3.

And, no matter who wins Sunday, Hurricane Grill is already taking reservations for a Super Bowl XCVI bash Feb. 5. "And, God willing, it'll be the Giants and New England," Rexhouse said, anticipating what would be the region's marquee matchup for the NFL's championship game. New England hosts Baltimore in the AFC championship game at 3 p.m. Sunday, and that game will also be dominating the big screens at Hurricane Grill.

Rexhouse said he already has 40 reservations for the Super Bowl party, which costs $50 and comes with a special menu. This Sunday, Hurricane Grill is offering its standard fare – five free wings with each alcoholic beverage.

"There will be some giveaways," he said. "We'll have some Giants memorabilia. I expect it to be a madhouse."

Rexhouse said, though, that he gets a well-behaved crowd. "It's a good bunch of guys," he said. "Everyone gets along. For some reason, we had a big Cowboys following in here all season. They'd take up the whole bar and the tables to the right. The Cowboys – that's one of those teams, if you don't love 'em, you hate 'em."

The Hurricane Grill is located at 149 S. Central Park Ave. in Hartsdale.
