Hit Paydirt Sunday at Greenburgh Nature Center

GREENBURGH, N.Y. - Before settling down to watch the Giants and Patriots face-off in the Super Bowl Sunday evening, children and adults can get down and dirty at the new Natural History Exhibit opening at the Greenburgh Nature Center.

"Beautiful Dirt! A Look into the Amazing Story Underfoot" is an interactive exhibit, sponsored in part by Houlihan Lawrence of Scarsdale, WFAS Radio and Westchester County Parks, where visitors can dig in and discover the secret world that lies beneath.

"You don't just go in and read. You can go in and touch and feel," said Vicki Seiden Sherman, director of marketing and communications. "We pride ourselves on having fun ways for kids to learn but this is also fun for adults."

The Natural History Exhibit, which runs until September, is an annual attraction. Some past exhibits have focused on trees and water. The exhibit will be open at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Meanwhile, also on Sunday, visitors can learn the "Bare Bones" about some of the Nature Center's predators and prey at an 11 a.m. program run by naturalist Greg Wechgelaer, who will demonstrate how to read some "bonafide" animal bones with some of his furry friends.

Recommended for ages five and up, the "Bare Bones" program costs $2 for members and $6 for non-members. Entrance fee to the Nature Center is free for members, $7 for adults, $6 for students and seniors and $5 for children ages two to 12.

The 33-acre nature preserve, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends, is located on Dromore Road off Central Avenue. For more information, visit www.greenburghnaturecenter.org or call (914) 723-3470.
