Ikea Recalls Millions Of Dressers Linked To Toddler Death

Ikea announced Monday it is recalling tens of millions of dressers sold over decades because they can tip over, injure or kill small children, according to multiple reports. The furniture company said the dressers can be top heavy and easy to topple if they are not anchored to a wall.

On average, one child dies every two weeks when a TV, furniture or appliance falls onto him or her. By anchoring large furniture, televisions and appliances, these terrible tragedies can be prevented.

A total of 29 million chests and dressers have been recalled.

Three children are known to have died as result of accidents involving the dressers the last two years, according to philly.com.

Ikea said it would stop selling the dressers immediately. The company's low-cost Malm line, which failed stability testings, has already been removed from its website.

Ikea will offer full refunds to the millions of customers who bought them.

Full details of the recall are expected to be announced on Tuesday by both Ikea and the Consumer Product Safety Commission, according to philly.com.
