CARMEL, N.Y. The Carmel Police Department is reiterating that the investigation into the cause of the deadly Sullivan family house fire could take several weeks, according to an update Monday from Chief Michael Johnson.
Members of the Putnam County Fire Investigation team and Carmel Police Department met late Monday morning to discuss their progress in case, what has been ascertained so far in the investigation, and planning for further investigation, if needed.
Samples of possible evidence from the scene of the fire were sent to the New York State Police crime lab in Albany; officials are waiting on those lab results.
Detectives from the Carmel Police Department and Putnam County Sheriffs Department are still conducting interviews with witnesses, neighbors, emergency responders, friends of the family and anyone else with possible knowledge of the fire.
More than 1,000 mourners from Putnam County, Larchmont and beyond attended the funeral Saturday for Larchmont police Capt. Thomas Sullivan Sr., 48, his wife, Donna, 47, and their two teenage daughters, Meaghan, 17, and Mairead, 15. Thomas Sullivan Jr., 20, is the sole surviving member of the family.
