Jacob Burns to Premiere Students' Short Films

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville will feature short films produced by students around Westchester County as part of two red carpet premiere events this week.The red carpet events are the culmination of the film center's "Mind in Motion" summer program. Students of the program, ages nine to 11, will have a red carpet arrival to the center before screening their short films. Afterwards an awards ceremony and reception will follow.On Monday, the Jacob Burns Film Center will screen short films produced by The Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester in Mt. Kisco, the Ossining Children's Center, The Theodore D. Young Community Center in Greenburgh, The Elm Street Neighborhood Center in Yonkers, and The PEAK Center in Mount Vernon. On Wednesday, students from The Little School in Hawthorne will show their films. A total of 23 short films will be shown during the two eventsThe "Mind in Motion" summer program is a stop-motion animated workshop that is taught by professional animators and educational facilitators at the Jacob Burns Film Center's Media Arts Lab. All students are from under-resourced school districts and participate in the program free of charge.Monday's premiere is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start, while Wednesday's is set to start at 1 p.m. Both programs are free and open to the public to attend.
