Mild Weather Helps Crews Working On Tappan Zee Bridge

The massive Tappan Zee Bridge project remains on target for an opening in 2017, due, partly, to the relatively benign weather the region has had so far this season, according to a report by lohud.

In the winter of 2014, construction work on the span was temporarily halted when the Hudson froze, and last year, work was suspended when high winds ripped several barges from their moorings, the lohud story said.

According to the state Thruway Authority, there will be lane and ramp closures connected with work being done on four precast concrete crossbeams that will connect the span’s main towers and support its road decks.

Field testing of the project’s all-electronic toll collection system in Rockland will also affect lanes and ramps, the authority said.
