The Fairview Fire Department responded to the call of a major gas leak from a pipeline station just before 9 p.m. and evacuated those living in surrounding homes as a precaution. The department said officials were not yet sure what caused the leak, but it could be the result of a blown valve.

The Fire Department said the leak was under control. Residents still were not allowed to return to their homes as of 9:50 p.m., but will be shortly, the department said.
