A 2-year old child was found dead in the attic area of the single-family home at 107 Sears Avenue (off Route 9A) Sunday after a search through the night and into the morning.
The cause of the fire, which was under control by 11:50 p.m. Saturday night, was not known.
The home is owned by Hosea Daniel, 57, who lives with his mother, daughter, grandchildren, brother and other members of his extended family.
The deceased two-year old boy and his mother, who iss hospitalized at Westchester Medical Center with second-degree burns, were not named. Two other members of the family were treated for smoke inhalation.
The fire broke out on the second floor of the home and family members frantically tried to gain access to the attic where the boy was sleeping.
Elmsford Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Stephen Woehrle said , assistant chief of the Elmsford Fire Department the fatality was the first fire-related death in about 35 years.
