School Budget in Spotlight at Edgemont Meeting

EDGEMONT, N.Y. – Edgemont residents will have a chance to hear about the 2012-13 school budget proposal when the Edgemont Board of Education holds its regular meeting Tuesday at 8:15 p.m. in the Large Group Instruction room of Edgemont Junior-Senior High School.

Superintendent Nancy Taddiken's budget proposal, as unveiled at a budget workshop with the board Feb. 7, comes in under the state's new 2 percent tax levy cap and represents a .31 percent increase in spending at $50,016,261. The public will have a chance to comment on the budget at Tuesday night's meeting. 

Also at the meeting, there will be presentations by national Intel Science Talent Search contest semifinalists Alex Bhandari-Young and Apoorva Talanki, and recognition of the school's six National Merit Scholarship finalists: Gabriella Lallas, Eugene Kim, Andrew Stoughton, Evie Tzelios, Helen Xu and Kathleen Yam. 

Among other business on the agenda will be approval of several appointments for teachers and chaperones, approval of services for special education students and approval of the district's plan for education students with disabilities.
