School's Namesake Remembered in Greenburgh

GREENBURGH, N.Y. - In celebration of Black History Month, students at Lee F. Jackson Elementary School recently remembered the school's namesake.

During what also served as the 100th Day of school assembly, kindergarten and first grade students, who wore special t-shirts for the occasion donated by the PTA, sang, read passages and presented flowers, with the help of Principal Patricia Simone, to Jackson's mother, Nettie, in memory of her son.

Lee F. Jackson, who attended the school and graduated from Woodlands High School, was killed in a plane crash in 1996 on a trip to Bosnia at the age of 37. Jackson was executive director of the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development in London.
