WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- When funding was approved for the construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge, one requirement that was imposed was a study of the endangered Atlantic and short-nose species of sturgeon, according to LoHud.com.

During the bridge construction, scientists will catch 60 of both the Atlantic and short-nose fish and place tags in them so that they can better learn the habits of the endangered fish and ensure the sturgeon are avoiding the construction area, LoHud.com reported.
