EDGEMONT, N.Y. A social media update by the parents of Lauren Spierer hints at a possible connection between their missing daughter and a skull found by a fisherman a week ago in Indiana.
Media reports from Indiana note that a human skull was found July 9 in the White River in Indianapolis, about 60 miles from Bloomington, Ind., where Spierer, 20, was attending college. She disappeared in the early hours of June 3, 2011, after a night of partying.
On Saturday, a post on the familys Facebook page on the missing young woman read, In the days ahead, a family will have answers they have been desperately seeking. Will it be ours?
Her parents, Rob and Charlene Spierer of Edgemont, have seen their hopes rise with every reported discovery of remains in Indiana or neighboring Illinois, only to learn weeks later that it was not their daughter.
When will you end this nightmare for our family? We will never give up. We are just as determined as we were on June 3, 2011. You need to know that. It's our promise to you. For now we continue to wait . The Spierers, reads the remainder of the Facebook message.
Indiana police and the coroners office have told the media that it could take six to eight weeks to identify the gender, age and race of the skull. News reports also noted that divers searched the river near the area where the skull was discovered but found no additional remains.
