Spierer's Mom Posts Chilling Letter; Family Waits

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Charlene Spierer, the mother of missing Edgemont college student Lauren Spierer, released a heartfelt letter Thursday as the family awaits lab results that may determine whether recently found remains are her daughter’s.

The letter, posted on a blog dedicated to Lauren, is addressed at the person responsible for Lauren’s disappearance. Charlene Spierer says she hopes that one day the person responsible will suffer as her family is.

“I hope I am making you uncomfortable. I hope you have as many sleepless nights as I have,” Spierer writes. “I hope that some day, your parents, your siblings, your friends will all be in a courtroom when your true self is revealed, the self which was born on June 3, 2011 when you took Lauren from us.”

Spierer’s mother also addresses that the family is waiting for a report from the Marion County Coroner’s Office that will determine if a skull found in the White River in early July is Lauren’s. Spierer said that her daughter’s dental records will help in the process, but that it could take up to eight weeks to complete.

“That’s 80,640 minutes of agony,” Spierer writes.

Messages left with the Marion County Coroner’s Office were not immediately returned Friday.

Lauren Spierer was last seen on June 3, 2011, after she left a party near Indiana University in Bloomington. Since that point, multiple bodies have been found in the area, none of which were determined to be the 20-year-old.
