“Too often, leaders in Albany talk the talk on mandate relief, but don’t walk the walk,” Buchwald said. “State mandates interfere with the autonomy of our local governments and school districts in too many ways, and although this is just the beginning of our work, I want my constituents to know that I understand their concerns and progress is being made.”
Bill A.8340 cuts in half the amount of time county boards of elections have to hold poll books – bound books that voters sign at each primary, special and general election polling site. Storage space will no longer need to be paid for because of the new timelines involved in the bill. Ballots and records of voting machines will still be preserved. The bill was sponsored in the Senate by State Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) sponsored the bill in the Senate and it was supported by the Election Commissioners' Association of the State of New York.
