Tappan Zee Bridge Crews To Install Sturgeon Monitors

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Tappan Zee Bridge crews will begin putting in acoustic receivers used to locate endangered Atlantic and Short-Nose sturgeon in the Hudson River this week, the New York State Thruway Authority announced.

Part of the construction plans include monitoring sturgeon movement and migration through the Hudson Valley, with data reported to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the National Marine Fisheries Service.

Crews will also continue building a temporary work trestle on the Westchester side of the river. That work includes pile-driving and subsurface exploration operations.

Work on the trestle will close right lanes on eastbound I-87/I-287 near Exit 9 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Some westbound lanes will on the road will be closed on Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and Friday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
