Tens Of Thousands Without Power in Westchester

UPDATE 11:30 a.m. -- Nearly 67,000 Westchester residents are currently without power. Con Edison is reporting 40,168 of its customers throughout the county do not have power. NYSEG is reporting 26,483 of its customers are also experiencing outages.

7 a.m. -- Con Edison is reporting nearly 22,000 of its customers are in the dark this morning. More than 16,000 NYSEG customers are without electricity.

Both utilities warned of possible "sustained, extended outages" due to Hurricane Irene. Facebook posts report outages in Harrison, Croton and North Salem.

"Power went out in my town," said Harrison resident Sam Maldonado via Facebook. "Just got on my iPad -- gonna watch some movies on Netflix. Thank God the WiFi tower is still up because that's how I'm getting service right now."

The Hutchinson River Parkway is closed end to end; major portions of the Bronx River and Saw Mill River parkways are also closed. Residents in Mamaroneck and Greenburgh reported flooding.

"We abandoned ship at 6:30 a.m.," Greenburgh resident Gayle Williams said on Facebook. "Basement flooded and water rising go the first floor. Stay with us for further developments.
