Weigh In On Edgemont Crane's Pond Crosswalk

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Residents are invited to shed some light on the proposed Crane's Pond Crosswalk project in Edgemont this weekend and, ultimately, decide its fate.

On Saturday, Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. at Town Hall, the community will discuss the outcome of the venture. The project would create an elevated crosswalk on Edgemont Road, directly in front of the pond.

Once built, the crosswalk would force cars to reduce their speed, ensuring greater safety for the foot traffic around the pond and increase the number of pedestrians. Nevertheless, it could be an eyesore for the community, and drivers might not respect the request for reduced speed.

Since the topic has been paddled between Edgemont civic associations and the Department of Public Works, Saturday's meeting will host a consultant who can explain the crosswalk's details and implications. The proposed crosswalk is expected to cost between $70,000 and $80,000. The money will come from the developer's escrow funds so the crosswalk is not a taxpayer-funded project.
