Livability.com's list consisted of more than 2,000 cities with populations ranging from 20,000 to 350,000. Those cities were then ranked by the following criteria:
- Amenities
- Demographics
- Economy
- Education
- Health care
- Housing
- Social and civic capital
- Transportation
Each category was then given a weighted score. The eight categories were then combined to give each city a total livability score.
White Plains received a total livability score of 622. The city excelled in several categories, including demographics, amenities, transportation, and social and civic capital.
White Plains only struggled in one category, netting a low rating in the economy category, which factors in cost of living and affordability.
Madison, Wis., was rated the top overall city with a total livability score of 705.
