The officer, who has not been identified, is recovering from leg injuries at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, Yonkers police said. His K-9 police dog, who was in the vehicle at the time of the accident, was treated for minor injuries as well, police said.
The crash occurred in the town of Greenburgh in a chase that began in Yonkers at 7:48 p.m., police said. Officers attempted to pull over the driver, later identified as Michael Ricci, 31, of 397 Roberts Ave., for speeding along Central Park Avenue, police said.
Ricci continued driving into the town of Greenburgh, where he escaped pursuit after the cruiser was involved in an accident near Central Park Avenue and Ardsley Road along with two civilian vehicles, police said.
One person and an unidentified officer were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Less than four hours later, police arrested Ricci at his north Yonkers home. They also found a loaded handgun in the home, police said.
Ricci was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and unlawfully fleeing a police officer, both felonies. He was also charged with reckless driving, a violation.
