Constance Mcdowell-DeGruyter, 83, Longtime Greenburgh Resident

GREENBURGH, N.Y. - Constance McDowell – DeGruyter, a longtime resident of Greenburgh, died April 27. She was 83.

DeGruyter was born Oct. 20, 1929, in Tryon, N.C., to Inez Mcdowell and James R. Mcdowell. She graduated from Norwalk High School in Norwalk and also attended Howard University in Washington, D.C.  After leaving Howard, she attended Juilliard School of Music, in New York City.

Prior to her retirement, she was an executive with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, in New York City.

DeGruyter is survived by her brother, James R. McDowell, Jr. of Tucson, Ariz.; and nieces and nephew. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Joan Johnson; and her nephew, Joseph Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m.  May 4  at Lee’s Funeral Home , 160 Fisher Ave, White Plains.  Reverend Debra Morris will be officiating.
