NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Daphne E. Traynor Tynan, formerly of New Rochelle, died Jan. 3, after a brief illness. She was 87.
A resident of Ocala, Fla., Tynan worked as a waitress at numerous local establishments, most recently at Irish Eyes in Ardsley.
Tynan was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Drumconda, County Meath, Ireland, to Michael and Catherin Traynor. She immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 25 and started work as a waitress.
Shortly after, she met and married James M. Tynan of New Rochelle. Together, they raised four children. Tynan dedicated her life to work, family and helping the sick, her family said. She loved bingo and was fond of saying "God bless" in place of "goodbye."
Tynan is survived by four children, James M. (Mary) Tynan, of Jacksonville, Fla., Joan M. Tynan, of New Rochelle, John M. (Mary Ellen Tynan, of Westford, Mass., and Joseph M. (Peggy) Tynan, of Waldoboro, Maine; two brothers, Amon and Gerald; two sisters, Bernadette and Eileen; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Lloyd Maxcy And Sons Beauchamp Chapel in New Rochelle. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Church in New Rochelle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
