Donald Berretta, 56, Greenburgh Police Dispatcher

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Donald "Donny" M. Berretta, a dispatcher for the Greenburgh Police Department, died June 29 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, N.Y. He was 56. 

Berretta was also a life member and volunteer firefighter with the Ossining Fire Department. 

He was born March 26, 1956, in North Tarrytown to Michael and Winifred Smith Berretta. He graduated from Ossining High School in 1974 and Butler College in Indianapolis, Ind., before returning to Ossining. 

Berretta joined the Ossining Fire Department in 1982 as a member of Rescue 14. Since 1986, he was a member of Washington Hook and Ladder Co. Berretta was a member of the Westchester County Firemen's Association, Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association, Royal Order of the Blue Vest and Firemen's Association of the State of New York.  

He was Ossining Fire Department Dispatcher No. 31 and enjoyed serving as Santa Claus.

He is survived by a sister, Michele Caldwell, of Miamisburg, Ohio; a nephew; an aunt and many cousins.  

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Ossining United Methodist Church. Burial following the service will be private. Dorsey Funeral Home in Ossining is handling arrangements.
