Donald Garrett Hoy, 91, Former Ardsley Resident And Village Official

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Donald Garrett Hoy of Fort Myers, formerly of Ardsley, died Jan. 3. He was 91.

Hoy was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Westchester, N.Y. He graduated from Roosevelt High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving in World War II. Upon his return, he joined the family business in Ardsley, becoming president when his brother Charles retired. He also served as a village official in Ardsley for 35 years. He was a member of the Knights of Malta and was past master of the Gramatan-Vernon Masonic Lodge # 927 and a member of the Pleasantville-Hiawatha Lodge #434.

Hoy is survived by his children, stepchildren and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wives,  Mary Grandsire Hoy and Carol Sheridan Hoy.

Calling hours are Thursday, Jan. 9 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home , 64 Ashford Ave., Dobbs Ferry. A Mass of The Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 535 Ashford Ave., Ardsley.

A memorial service will be held at Shell Point Village Church in Fort Myers, Fla., in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Order of Malta, American Association , to help defray the cost of a Malade's trip for the 2014 Lourdes Pilgrimage. Donations may be sent to: Lourdes Pilgrimage, P.O. Box 10023, Uniondale, NY 11555-0023.
