She was born in the Bronx on March 10, 1922, to Helena and Edwin Moses, and the family moved to White Plains when Edith was a child
A 1939 graduate of White Plains High School, Stowell went on to Katharine Gibbs School.
In 1942, she married Navy Lt. Kenneth C. Stowell, also of White Plains.
During World War II, Stowell worked as a secretary and volunteered at the USO and Junior Red Cross in White Plains.
She is survived by three children, Linda Brakel of Vermont, and Kenneth Stowell, Jr. and Cynthia Stowell of Oregon; three grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband; brothers, Winfield and Edwin, Jr.; and a son, David.
