ARDSLEY, N.Y. – Edith Leila Starr Hausman of Ardsley died Nov. 13 at Sky View Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Croton-on-Hudson. She was 89.
Hausman was born Jan. 21, 1923, in the Bronx to Charles and Rebecca Reiss Starr. She married Herbert Lewis Hausman on Jan. 10, 1943, in Washington, D.C., where she was one of the first two women to work in the newly opened Pentagon.
She and her husband raised their family in Ardsley and enjoyed Broadway and off-Broadway shows with family and friends. She also volunteered with the local library and synagogue.
Hausman was predeceased by her husband in 1999; a sister, Ruth Salwen; and a brother, Robert Starr.
She is survived by two sons, Edward Benjamin Hausman, of Pompton Plains, N.J., and Richard Hausman, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a daughter, Deborah (Charles) Klein, of Pawling; and two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry. Shiva will be observed at the home of Hausman’s daughter.
