Constantino, of White Plains, was a Life Member of Elmsford Fire Company No. 1 and a volunteer member of the Elmsford Fire Department. His nickname was "Pop" around the firehouse because he was always there to offer advice, said Village Trustee Mike Eannazzo, who is also Elmsford's deputy fire chief.
"Vito was a great guy," Eannazzo said. "He was always at the firehouse, meetings, events — lending a hand, doing whatever he could do. Whenever there was an event or fundraiser, you would find Pop in the kitchen cooking. Vito was like a grandfather figure to many of us. He is going to be sorely missed."
Constantino was always proud of his sons Richie and John, Eannazzo added, who were both former chiefs of the Elmsford Fire Department. Constantino's daughter, Angela Constantino, and wife, Gloria Constantino, were also involved in the fire service as members of the Live Oak Ladies Auxiliary.
Elmsford Mayor Robert Williams said Constantino was a good friend, and that his service to the village will be greatly missed.
"He always went out of his way to say hello. He was always happy and made everyone around him happy," Williams said. "He loved his family and enjoyed when they were all around him."
Vito Constantino is survived by his wife, Gloria, and his three children, John, Richard and Angela Constantino. Reposing services will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 W. Stevens Ave. Elmsford Fire Department members will assemble at the Hawthorne Funeral Home at 6:45 p.m. Monday to pay their respects.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 59 E. Main St., Elmsford.
