Former Journal News Editor CynDee Royle Dies At 57

CynDee Royle, "a fierce advocate for the public’s right to know who guided lohud and The Journal News into the digital age," died on Saturday, Feb. 6, at age 57 following a years-long battle with lung cancer, reported The Journal News.

Royle was The Journal News' vice president of news/editor until she stepped down in 2014 as a result of her illness.

Royle, a longtime White Plains resident, had a long history in journalism, with roles including part-time sportwriter, copy editor, assistant enterprise editor and senior managing editor. She was "a fully engaged newswoman who had high expectations for her reporters, photographers and editors, and demanded work that was well conceived and executed," The Journal News wrote.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Howell, of Bear, Delaware; daughter Niki Lynne Keenan-Callahan and her husband Michael Callahan, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania; son Max Lambert of White Plains; parents Richard and Letitia Royle of Broadkill Beach, Delaware; sister Sandra R. Mummert of Kennett Square; brother Richard Royle Jr. of the greater Wilmington, Delaware, area; several nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, at Doherty Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Ave., in Wilmington, Delaware.
