Grace Katz, 71, Hartsdale Administrator, Volunteer

HARTSDALE, N.Y. – Grace "Missy" Kinsey Katz of Hartsdale died Jan. 5. She was 71.

She was born Aug. 15, 1941, in Peekskill to Dr. Roy E. and Grace Guinzburg Kinsey. She attended Peekskill High School and received a bachelor's degree from Radcliffe College.

She received a master's degree in education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and later received a master's of business administration in finance from Pace University. Katz became a certified nursing home administrator at the family-owned Westledge Health Care Facility in Peekskill, founded by her parents in 1965.

Katz was a fellow of the American College of Nursing Home Administrators and an advanced member of the Hudson Valley chapter of the Health Care Financial Management Association.

She was a co-founder and president of the Friends of the Greenburgh Library and chaired the annual book fair. She was president and treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the Greenburgh Public Library.

Katz served as co-president of the Harvard-Radcliffe Club of Westchester and treasurer of the Archaeological Institute of America Westchester Society. She was a member of the Greenburgh League of Women Voters, AARP Foundation, Medicare Rights Center and the Volunteer Center of United Way.

She is survived by two daughters, Grace Ellen and Allison Hay Katz; a son-in-law, Robert S. Thate; a sister, Alice Kinsey Dean; a niece; a nephew; and an uncle. She was predeceased by a brother, Roy “Pete” E. Kinsey Jr.; and a brother-in-law, John Dean.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home in Scarsdale.
