HARTSDALE, N.Y. – James A. Smith of Hartsdale died Nov. 3. He was 80.
Smith was born Jan. 5, 1932, in New York City. He served as a lieutenant in Navy CEC Corps and worked as professional engineer, retiring as president of Container Transport International in the 1980s. He married Mary Alice O'Donnell in 1954.
He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Hartsdale for more than 50 years. He was a longtime member of the Exchange Club of White Plains. He served on the boards of Cabrini of Westchester and the Child Abuse Prevention Center of New York.
Smith is survived by three children, Dr. Elizabeth Smith, of Irvington, Katherine (Edmund) Vogel, of Hawthorne, and James (Elizabeth) Smith, of Weston, Conn.; a brother, Peter (Helen) Smith, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; a sister, Margaret Mary (Richard) Breimann, of Manchester, N.J.; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at McMahon, Lyon and Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church in Hartsdale. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in White Plains.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry and the Child Abuse Prevention Center of New York Inc. in White Plains.
