Mary Sandberg, 88, Former Elmsford Accountant

ELMSFORD, N.Y. – Mary Sandberg, a former Elmsford resident, died June 17 at Salem Hills Nursing Home in Purdys. She was 88. 

Born Sept. 30, 1923, in Lennoxtown, Scotland, she was the daughter of John Diamond and Isabella Callaghan. In 1971, she married Arthur Sandberg in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Elmsford. She most recently lived in Hyde Park, N.Y., and worked as an accountant before retiring. 

Her husband died in 2005.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, Arlene Evanowski, of Carmel, N.Y.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Winifred) Diamond, of Somerset, England; a niece, Ann Helsby, of Somerset; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Margaret Antonecchia; a stepson, William Sandberg; and a brother, Jack Diamond. 

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, at Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, at Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
