Robert J. Broderick, 83, Former Hartsdale Fire Commissioner

HARTSDALE, N.Y. -- Robert J. Broderick, a Hartsdale resident, died Saturday, June 6, at 83.

Broderick was born Sept. 28, 1931, in Yonkers to Matthew and Catherine Broderick. He was a graduate of White Plains High School and received a bachelor's degree in fire service and criminal justice from Mercy College.

He went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-53. After his service he became a New York state trooper at Troop K for 13 years. He then went on to be a firefighter in the Hartsdale Fire Department and worked his way up to the rank of captain, retiring in 1989. He then served as commissioner of the Hartsdale Fire Department from 1991 to 2014.

He is survived by his brothers, Ray (Fran) Broderick, of White Plains, and Dick (Cathy) Broderick.

Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, at 10 a,m. at Sacred Heart Church in Hartsdale. Interment will be at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
