Peifer was born July 9, 1950, in the Bronx. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1972 during the Vietnam Era. He served the NYPD for 40 years, retiring in July 2013 as an NYPD police captain. He was a member of the NYPD Benevolent Association and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
Peifer is survived by his wife, Ellen Peifer; daughters, Dawn (Benjamin) Weiss and Laurie Marie (David) Terry; son, Ronald G. Peifer II; sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Vincent) Bruno; three grandchildren; two sisters; brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews; friends; and neighbors.
Calling hours are Friday, March 7 from 2 to 7 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home (Elmsford Chapel), 72 E. Main St., Elmsford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Elmsford. Interment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale.
