Ruth J. Cushman, 84, Formerly Of Irvington, Worked For Board Of Education

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Ruth J. Cushman of Port Charlotte died Tuesday, Feb. 26. She was 84.

Cushman was born June 21, 1928, in Tarrytown, N.Y., to Edmund and Ida Johnson. She had been a resident of Port Charlotte since 1985 coming from Irvington, N.Y., where she had worked as an assistant business manager for the Board of Education of Irvington from 1959 to 1985. She received the President's Volunteer Service Award from the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation. She was also on the Board of Directors of the Charlotte County Historical Center and Children's Museum.

Cushman is survived by daughter, Gail McBride; two granddaughters; sister, Esther Rees; and brother, Victor Johnson.

A memorial service was held at the Port Charlotte Presbyterian Church in Florida and a Celebration of Life gathering for family and friends will be held June 22 at 4 p.m. at her daughter's home. For information and directions please contact Gail at
