William Edward Oliver, Sr., 75, Of Greenburgh, Army Veteran

GREENBURGH, N.Y. - William Edward Oliver, Sr., a resident of Greenburgh, died Jan. 10. He was 75.

Oliver was born June 23, 1938, in Yonkers, to Edna Rosetta Johnson and Maurice Hilton Oliver, II. He served with the U.S. Army for six years in the 82nd (101st Airborne Division). He worked as an New York City corrections officer (Rikers Island) with the City of New York Department of Corrections for 20 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the New York City Corrections Retirees Benevolent Assocociation, the NAACP and the Hillside Wyndover Civic Assoc.

Oliver is survived by his wife, Cleo; children, William Jr. of North Carolina., Nathan of Philadelphia., Stephen of Washington D.C., Mark of the Bronx and Deborah Renee Munoz of Yonkers; four grandchildren; siblings, James, Ronald, June and Marlene. He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Maurice III, Marion, Verna and Phyllis.

Calling hours are Wednesday, Jan. 15 from 5 to  9 p.m. at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home Inc., 491 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Trollinger at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
