2 Charged With DWI In Midday Greenburgh Arrests

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Greenburgh police charged two men with driving while intoxicated in separate incidents this week, both of them in the middle of the day.

About 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, police responded to a call of a domestic dispute on Central Avenue. The caller said her husband, of Yonkers, had left after an argument. She also said he was an alcoholic and was intoxicated, according to the report.

The man returned to the residence while the police were still there. Police approached the man and smelled alcohol, according to the report. The man admitted he had been drinking the night before, and police conducted field sobriety tests.

When trying to stand on one leg, the man put his foot down and told police he had arthritis in both knees and the test was too painful, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated as a first offense.

On Monday, Sept. 24, police responded to a call at 3:30 p.m. from a Verizon Wireless store employee in Hartsdale that an intoxicated man was attempting to leave the parking lot in his car.

Police stopped the vehicle on North Central Avenue and smelled alcohol on the driver's breath, according to the report. The driver, of Hartsdale, failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving while intoxicated as a first offense, police said. A blood alcohol test at the Greenburgh Police Department showed the man's blood-alcohol content at 0.17 percent, according to the police report.
