An undetermined amount of cash was taken in the break-in that occurred at a house on Sprain Valley Road between 6 and 7 p.m., police said.
An alarm was called in to the security alarm board. But when contacted, the homeowner said he believed it was a false alarm after having a number of false alarms in the past, police said. The homeowner told security company not to dispatch police, according to police reports.
However, when he returned home, he found the rear sliding door had been shattered and an undetermined amount of cash had been taken, police said. Greenburgh police said the incident was still under investigation.
Also Tuesday, Greenburgh police responded to call at about 10:45 a.m. that a navigation stereo worth $1,200 had been stolen out of a car.
A man returned to his parked car on Watch Hill Drive in Tarrytown and found his passenger side window smashed and his navigation radio system taken from the dashboard, police said There were no known suspects or video footage available, police said.
A similar incident occurred Thursday at 10:45 a.m., when police responded to a report that a man found his driver's side window smashed and $10 stolen from his parked car outside Elmwood Country Club, 850 Dobbs Ferry Road.
Police could not say whether the car break-ins were related.
The following incidents were also reported by Greenburgh police:
Petit larceny: A display phone was stolen from the AT&T store on 835 S. Central Ave. on Wednesday, police said. The phone was worth $450, according to the store manager.
The manager gave police a description of the suspect, who was also caught on video surveillance, police said.
Unlawful possession: Police charged a 22-year-old Hartsdale man with marijuana possession and disorderly conduct, both violations, after seeing him punch another man and drive away in his car, police said.
The two men were yelling and cursing on South Washington Street at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, then started throwing punches, police said. The suspect got in his car to drive away but was quickly stopped by police. Police charged the man with disorderly conduct and, after searching him, found a bag of marijuana in his coat pocket.
