Greenburgh Cops Ask For Public's Help With Edgemont Burglary

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – The Greenburgh Police Department is on the hunt for a group of men who burglarized an Edgemont home Monday afternoon.

Just after 4:30 p.m. Monday, police received a phone call from a homeowner on Highland Avenue – just north of Ardsley Road between Central Avenue and the Sprain Brook Parkway – whose house had been robbed. The resident said an undetermined amount of cash and jewelry were stolen.

After an examination of the house's entry points, officers determined that the burglars entered the home through a rear window or sliding door, Greenburgh police Lt. Brian Ryan said in a press release. Ryan said that neighbors noticed a car lurking around the Highland Avenue area before the burglary occurred.

There were fewer burglaries in Greenburgh in 2011 than in 2010, which Police Chief Joseph DeCarlo noted in December, but Edgemont residents have been vocal about their concerns regarding a few other burglaries and attempted burglaries over the past year.

Police are asking for the public's assistance with Monday's burglary. If Highland Avenue neighbors have any information about the incident, they are encouraged to call the Greenburgh Police Department's detective division at 914-682-5325.
