?On Wednesday, July 24 at about noon, the Greenburgh Police responded to a call of a suspicious person(s) in the area of North Hampton Drive and Manor Drive. While checking the area, a resident alerted police that their vehicle was entered and several items were stolen, including a tennis racket. A short distance away, two males were stopped and interviewed. One of the males was in possession of a tennis racket. police said. Upon further investigation, the subjects were arrested and found in possession of additional stolen property from numerous vehicles within the adjoining neighborhoods, according to police. A 15-year-old juvenile and Eduardo D. Rodriguez, 20, of White Plains were arrested and charged with four counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree (Class E Felony): Police said at the time of this report, there are 10 reported victims/residents that have identified property allegedly stolen by the two young men. The report also noted that all cars were left unlocked by the owners. Greenburgh Police Cheif Joseph DeCarlo also released an advisory about an increase in thefts from vehicles throughout Westchester County and the Greenburgh and offered the following hints on how to prevent theft.
• Lock your doors and roll up the windows: Criminals love to go window shopping. They walk down neighborhood streets or go through shopping center parking lots looking through the windows of parked cars to see what people have left behind.
• Make sure you leave nothing of value in plain view in your car. Take valuables away with you, or put them in the trunk. If you own a sport utility vehicle, cover your valuables. Don't give thieves that kind of opportunity.
• Remove portable electronic devices such as smart phones and portable GPS navigation systems, including suction cup or bean bag type mounts. (even the visible appearance of a suction cup ring on the glass windshield can be an enticement to a thief to break in and look for the GPS system.) • Don't leave personal identification documents such as your license, registration to vehicle or credit cards in your vehicle. • Activate any theft deterrent device you may have. • Park in a well lit area or under a motion detector light if available • If you have a garage, use it. Do not leave garage door opening devices in the vehicle if parked outside. • Call the police to report a crime or any suspicious activity
