According to a report by Greenburgh Police, D'Elia conducted a traffic stop of a 1995 Toyota Camry in the vicinity of 869 Central Park Ave. South. D’Elia was recently assigned to a Burglary Task Force and recognized the vehicle in question as a vehicle similar to one used in a burglary in the Edgemont section of town on May 17.
The operator of the vehicle, Ian Frias, 25, of the Bronx, was observed driving southbound and was stopped after committing vehicle and traffic violations. Frias had a suspended license and was arrested on a charge of third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.
Frias was searched and three pairs of latex gloves were found in his pants pocket. The Camry was searched at Police Headquarters where numerous pieces of jewelry were discovered.
Detectives investigated further and have linked Frias to a residential burglary that occurred on Medford Lane in Edgemont. This connection to the earlier burglary is based on the identification of the stolen property by the Medford Lane homeowner.
As a result of the investigation, Frias was charged Tuesday with one count of second degree burglary, a class C felony and was arraigned Wednesday in Greenburgh Town Court.
The investigation is continuing.
