Greenburgh Police: Yonkers Man Charged With Felony Assault In Knife Attack

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Greenburgh Police arrested Joel Rosario of Yonkers and charged him with felony assault in a knife attack early Friday morning, police said.

Greenburgh Police responded at 1:05 a.m. Friday to a call of a violent assault involving a machete-type knife that had just occurred in the area of Elmwood Road and North Washington Avenue, police said.

When patrol units arrived, a 44-year-old Hartsdale man was found bleeding heavily from several wounds on his head and body, police said.

The victim reported that his attacker was the estranged husband of his current girlfriend, and that he fled the scene in a blue minivan, police said. The victim was transported to a local trauma center by Greenburgh Police EMS.

With assistance from the City of Yonkers Police Department, Greenburgh Police said that Rosario, 37, was located at approximately 2:45 a.m. at the Yonkers Gateway Motor Inn at 300 Yonkers Ave.

Rosario was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, a Class B felony, and is being held at Greenburgh Police headquarters pending arraignment.
