Judith Clark, Getaway Driver In Triple-Fatal Brink's Robbery, Denied Parole

Judith Clark, who was the getaway driver in the infamous 1981 Brink's armored car robbery that resulted in the deaths of two Nyack police officers and an armed guard, has been denied parole. The 67-year-old Clark, who is now at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, has already served 35 years of a minimum 75-year prison term. She was not scheduled to be eligible for parole until 2056, but Gov. Andrew Cuomo commuted her sentence to a minimum 35 years in January, making her eligible this year.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day today expressed relief that Clark was denied parole.

“Judith Clark needs to spend the rest of her life behind bars to pay her debt to society,” said Day. “She is a domestic terrorist who does not deserve to walk among the free.”

The robbers shot Brink's guard Peter Paige dead while stealing $1.6 million in cash from the armored car at the Nanuet Mall in Nanuet. The fleeing suspects were eventually trapped at a roadblock in Nyack, where the second gunfight occurred and the two officers -- Sgt. Edward O’Grady and Officer Waverly “Chipper” Brown -- were killed at a roadblock in Nyack. Brown was the first African-American member of the Nyack Police Department.

“Judith Clark was treated fairly by our justice system – a system for which she showed nothing but contempt,” Day said. “The judge rightfully concluded that she needed to spend the rest of her life in jail. ”

Day a former NYPD lieutenant commander, has strongly criticized Cuomo’s decision to commute Clark’s sentence.

He noted that the families of the Brink's victims will have to be on alert every two years when Clark appears before the Board of Parole.

“The families will not be alone,” Day said. “As long as there is a breath in my body, I will join the law enforcement community to oppose the release of this convicted cop-killer.”

Clark was a radical political activist in the 1960s and ‘70s. A member of the Weather Underground Organization, she took part in many political agitation and criminal activities.

Even after the WUO was dissolved, she worked with other extremist groups such as the Black Panthers and the Black Liberation Army.

Seriously wounded in the Nanuet attack was Brink's guard Joseph Trombino. He survived, only to be killed in 2001 in the 9/11 attacks.

According to multiple media reports, Clark has repented her past, expressed remorse for her crimes and has been a model prisoner in Bedford Hills where she started programs for women infected with HIV, prenatal education and college courses.
