The accident resulted in the closure of the northbound Saw Mill in the area of Executive Boulevard for more than an hour starting just after 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Herrera was charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree and driving while intoxicated, both misdemeanors, following the incident, which occurred about 6 a.m., according to police.
County police received a 911 call from a motorist reporting that a black Hyundai sedan was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes in the vicinity of Executive Boulevard in Yonkers.
At the same time, a motorist flagged down county police officer David Johnson to report the same information. Johnson then came upon the scene of an accident on the Saw Mill near Odell Avenue. A black Hyundai had collided with a Subaru Legacy sedan as the Subaru was traveling northbound in the left lane of travel, according to police.
Police said the driver of the Subaru, a 55-year-old woman from Philadelphia, Pa., was transported to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla with non-life threatening injuries.
Herrera was booked at county police headquarters in Hawthorne and will be arraigned on Wednesday in Yonkers City Court. He was also issued a summons for driving the wrong way on the parkway.
