A routine traffic stop of an “erratic” driver on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Mount Pleasant led to felony drug charges for a Putnam County man.

On Monday, March 20, New York State Police troopers stopped on the Sprain Brook Parkway to offer the Town of Greenburgh Police Department with a traffic stop. Police said the driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Carlos Perez, from Lake Peekskill, was stopped for driving erratically on the roadway.

According to police, during the subsequent stop, troopers determined that Perez was operating his vehicle under the influence while impaired by drugs. Perez was evaluated by a state police Drug Recognition Expert, who confirmed that Perez could not safely operate a motor vehicle due to impairment.

Perez was arrested and charged with a felony count of driving while ability impaired by drugs, when his criminal history revealed a previous DWI related conviction from 2011. He was issued traffic tickets and is due back in the Town of Mount Pleasant Court on Thursday, April 13.
