GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Several East Hartsdale Avenue residents helped detain a man they say was caught burglarizing an Edgemont home Sunday, according to the Greenburgh Police Department.
After police officers arrived and continued their investigation, they arrested Bryan Mitchell, a 20-year-old homeless man, and charged him with felony second-degree burglary.
Mitchell allegedly hid in the closet of a man’s Clubway home and ran away when the homeowner confronted him, police said.
The homeowner and several residents of nearby East Hartsdale Avenue chased the suspect and detained him until law enforcement officers arrived, according to police.
Several items stolen from the Clubway residence were recovered in Mitchell’s possession, police said.
No one was hurt during the reported burglary or while concerned Edgemont residents prevented Mitchell from escaping, according to police.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Greenburgh Police Department at 914-989-1725.
