GREENBURGH, N.Y. – A Greenburgh resident returned home Sunday afternoon to find a thief in his bedroom, police said.

Greenburgh police were called to a home on West Hartsdale Avenue near Hartsdale's Four Corners about 4:30 p.m. The resident had been outside his home and re-entered to discover unwanted company.

Laura Cardona, 18, of White Plains was "in the process of burglarizing the home, passing property out of a window to an accomplice," said police Sgt. Robert Whiting.

Cardona was allegedly passing the resident's property to her friend Magda Gimenez, 17, through the window. The resident was able to detain Gimenez, a White Plains resident, until the police arrived, while Cardona fled. Officers apprehended her one block away. All the stolen property was recovered by police and returned to the resident.

Both teenagers were charged with burglary, a felony. They were held at Greenburgh police headquarters to await arraignment in Greenburgh Town Court.
