The woman was identified as Karen Brown, 45, of Tarrytown. Police said they do not suspect foul play.
Tarrytown Police and Con Edison officials were at the house Wednesday morning responding to a report of a possible gas leak, but said they did not find a gas leak.
The Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office arrived before 1:30 p.m.
Mike Rosenbaum, 28, who lives in the house at 191 South Broadway, said he heard a woman screaming and crying around 9:30 a.m., and that one of his neighbors was consoling the crying woman, who was later taken away in an ambulance.
" 'I can't believe this is happening,' " Rosenbaum said he heard the woman say. "That's when I knew something was totally wrong."
Rosenbaum said he was not told to leave the house while police and Con Edison investigated the potential gas leak.
"She was a friendly nice person," Rosenbaum said.
