Firefighters were dispatched to the middle school at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Thursday afternoon following reports of a school bus on fire as classes were letting out. The fire, which was in the rear of the vehicle's undercarriage, was quickly put out by security guards under the watchful eyes of local law enforcement.
According to Mario Silvera, a parent picking up his daughter at Isaac E. Young, he was sitting in his car waiting for her to be dismissed when he could hear people shouting that "the school bus is on fire" before officials stepped in.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire or extent of any damage to the school bus was not immediately clear.
