'Suspicious' Incident Near Elementary School In Scarsdale Proves Unfounded

Updated, 12:40 p.m.: Scarsdale Police Capt. Thomas Altizio said that the man who spoke to the boy outside of Fox Meadow School was actually a neighbor that he did not recognize at the time. There was ultimately no suspicious activity.

SCARSDALE, N.Y. - Police in Scarsdale are investigating a "suspicious man" who approached a child near the Fox Meadow School.

At approximately 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, a 9-year-old boy was walking near the Fox Meadow School when a male in a passing car, who did not know the child, stopped to speak with him, Scarsdale Police Capt. Thomas Altizio said.

According to Altizio, the child, who was in the area with other children and his nanny, returned to them. The nanny immediately reported the incident to police.

The suspect has been described as a white male in his 50s driving a colored four-door sedan. Police have requested that any suspicious activity be immediately reported.

Altizio said the incident is currently under investigation by the Scarsdale Police Department’s Detective Division. Anyone with information regarding the incident can contact investigators at (914) 722-1200.
