Two teens nabbed Friday for breaking into a vehicle may be involved in other vehicle larcenies in the area, according to Greenburgh Police.

The teens, a 16-year-old and 17-year-old, both from Mount Vernon, were arrested after Greenburgh police received a 911 call from a resident of Ridge Road in Hartsdale reporting two men breaking into his vehicle, said Sgt. Robert Whiting.

The resident was awoken by his car alarm going off and when he looked out his window he observed two males fleeing his driveway, Whiting said.

Responding officers located additional vehicles that had been entered on Ridge Road and Hillcrest Avenue, he added.

Officers remained in the area and around 7 a.m. located the two teens at the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and West Hartsdale Avenue matching the description provided by the resident who observed them fleeing his driveway.

During an Investigation officers found the two teens to be in possession of sneakers stolen from a vehicle parked in a driveway of a home on Hillcrest Avenue.

Both males were taken into custody and charged with possession of stolen property.

Additional items in their possession have yet to be identified and the investigation is continuing. Greenburgh Police have received five separate reports of vehicle larcenies from the Hartsdale area, Whiting said.

Area residents are encouraged to lock their vehicles and not leave valuables in them. All the vehicles that had been entered on Friday had been left unlocked.
