Det. Lt. Eric Fischer said Friday that the student told someone at the school that William Cradle, 67, acted inappropriately toward her while in a classroom April 24.

Cradle was brought into police headquarters for questioning April 25 and arrested. He was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

“We were able to develop what we needed to develop for an arrest,” Fischer said.

Police would not say what happened between Cradle and the student.

“We’re classifying it as inappropriate contact, inappropriate behavior,” he said.

An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated the incident happened at White Plains High School. It happened at Highlands Middle School. The story has been corrected.
